That said, Skyrim has long been a part of the Empire, affording them protection, stalwart allies, fruitful trade, and the rule of law. That leads to one of the earliest conundrums players get to face when starting a new game in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim , join the Stormcloaks or join the Empire. The game centers around choices and non are more prominent than your decision to fight for the Stormcloaks or Imperials in the civil war. While you can obtain from fighting and not pick a side, both the Imperials and Stormcloaks have valid reasons on why they should win control of Skyrim.
The outcome of the war does not affect the main questline in any way, but picking a side forces you to declare your values and fight for the Skyrim you want to see in the future. A huge chunk of Tamriel's history involves conquest by the Imperials, whose military might and organized soldiers have led to their dominance.
That's why they're pretty much the most powerful faction in Skyrim during the game, though bruised and battered by a recent war with the Altmer. That automatically makes the Stormcloaks a rebel group, the freedom fighters, and the underdogs — the David to the Empire's Goliath.
They want nothing more than to free the Nords and Skyrim from the clutches of the progressively more oppressive Empire who even goes as far as banning certain gods from being worshipped as a part of their unfortunate treaty with the Thalmor.
Say what you will about the Empire, but their methods of modernization, economic know-how, and focus on the rule of law and order bring stability to the chaotic and frigid Skyrim. While it's true that Skyrim does have its High King, this position is easily contested by other Jarls, often making the seat of power in Skyrim a black hole of power struggles. As expected, this isn't great for the people and the economy. The Empire knows just how to quell the power-hungry Jarls and keep the Skyrim holds in check.
They also bring in a healthy amount of trade and commerce. While the Empire's modernized policies are good, it's clear that General Tullius or most anyone in the Imperial Legion that isn't a Nord themselves has, at best, a very poor grasp on Nord culture and tradition, making their presence and authority feel alien and invasive. To most of the Imperials, Nords are brash barbarians.
Ulfric Stormcloak, being Nord royalty himself, understands well how to preserve the valued customs of Skryim, thus retaining their cultural identity. The Empire, on the other hand, would gladly forgo these values if it makes assimilation and day-to-day business easier. Here's the key problem with the Nords' ways — they're quite xenophobic. While comparatively simple compared to the faction alignment systems of previous Elder Scrolls games, choosing a side to take up arms for in Skyrim 's civil war can still make for a pretty daunting decision.
Both have their reasons, certainly. But what if we put it through the lens of not picking the right side, but instead choosing the lesser of two evils?
Because there are certainly more than enough reasons that both of them would prove inept for the task. To demonstrate, we've gathered up five reasons that each side would make for a disastrous decision when it comes to actually rule the province of Skyrim, once the war is said and done.
Keep scrolling to join us as we pick apart each faction and make a case against them. Who knows? By the time you reach the end of our list, you might find yourself convinced that neither of them is fit to rule.
Maybe they should just let the dragons win? When it comes down to it, the Stormcloaks don't seem to be very fond of the Empire's cosmopolitan makeup. We have certainly seen the likes of slavery, unjust treatment, and flat inequality in other parts of Tamriel before, but the state of Windhelm's Dunmer population is rather telling concerning the limits of their tolerance.
Galmar makes a big ruckus about how you "don't need to be a Nord to fight for Skyrim," but one look at Windhelm's Gray Quarter puts that statement into context nicely. Sure, they don't mind more meat for the grinder. Why would they? Just don't expect them to give a tossed pie about the state you'll be living in once the war's over.
None have argued the contrary. None have said that the Stormcloaks cannot win or that the Imperials must win. The more you repeat this, the more you strike blindly at nothing whilst your opponent stands behind you. Those who make effective arguments make a claim and then explain why that claim is correct.
This is indicative of the futility of your argumentative style. I spent two paragraphs over nineteen lines explaining why statements you made were factually untenable. Instead of attempting to mount any defence of the words you have authored, you abandon them hoping that the opposition will forget you made such easily rebuttable statements as you also know that the only viable response is one of concession.
I was referencing ESO quests because I was providing you proof that the claims you had made were false, not as a rejection of an analogy I have indicated is fallacious. The circumstances of those references are disconnected to your analogy since the analogy poorly attempts to describe the moral and effective palatability of the Imperials and Stormcloaks where as the provided references disprove the claim you were making that the Dominion would not be able to sail to Skyrim.
Again, you have demonstrated your inability to comprehend different points and details therein, despite the fact that such points were clearly separated and prefaced with disconnected points made by yourself. Your analogy is fallacious as you are unable to provide a sufficient interlinkage between the two situations. Allow me to provide you with questions that may help you understand that there is a disconnection.
We are telling you that what you want to do is devoid of logic. Again, you are reiterating what you think without substantiation. We understand, due to the numerous times you have declared it, that you prefer neutrality. You say no progress can be made if the Dragonborn does not become involved, a statement which is obviously true. This does not mean that the Imperial Legion is not at a significant advantage to eventually be able to win the war and nothing else you have said effectively contradicts this.
I am merely someone who stated a fact that is not acceptable to you and caused you to be triggered. That is why you badger me so much over an opinion. I need to start from common sense huh? This is just a limited list of your belligerence. I will say this, though, and I want you to understand thoroughly: belligerence in arguments is fine to a degree.
It is not fine, however, when you imply you are being peaceable and are the victim of unfair badgering when it is obviously not true. It indicates that you are being intellectually dishonest with those you are engaging with.
I am never the victim. There is no limited list of my belligerence. Just your attempts to make me look dishonest. I have never been completely invested in arguing which side is better. Due to how little is truly known, I choose to talk about vague stuff like How I think Aldmeri Dominion has better chances vs anyone in this conflict based on the fact that Thalmor have been actively working against the Empire and succeeding in making Valenwood, Elsweyr, Hammerfell and parts of Skyrim break away from Empire.
Though you will flip out again and try to justify the Empire will surely prevail or that I can't know for sure, yes I am well-awared that AD having better chances based on what has transpire is not confirmation. Note: I said better chances, not Thalmor will absolutely win so stop flipping out. Also the first time I talked about Imperials vs Stormcloaks, I was just ranting irrelevant things.
Just report both Ice Cream truck to Health ministry and sue them until they are both left with underwear. It is entirely possible for them to write in the next Elder Scrolls game in this manner. Ulfric became Martyr for Stormcloaks to keep existing and it became another Season unending. New Hero in Hammerfell seek old forgotten power to fight the Aldmeri Dominion To continue the Fallout 4 Settlement building and Bethesda's bad habit of giving you two lousy choices.
You have to choose between creating a new order of Ansei and destroy Empire or Save Empire and give up recovering Ansei because you cannot choose the best most logical choice of creating a new order of Sword Singers and help the Empire. You must absolutely two choose one for no reason. I am not attempting to fix anything. I have never reiterate anything. You are merely too blind to see my points and now you try to claim I am dishonest.
I am merely stating what I have been saying. It can be written this way. But you said it is impossible to happen because of political climate.
That claim of political climate is so stupid I don't even feel like answering simply because political climate can change simply because of a single incident. Then I get badgered because you saw something you don't like. Since you don't understand what I stated was just one of the lesser possibilities. I kept telling you in my own words the same thing but even now you still fail to understand and make the same mistake I did talk about that as an example that there is a pretty high chance that Bethesda will make as all Guild quests canon since it is easy to write them into canon even if Last Dragonborn is not involved in the quests.
I believe I said 5. Eventually will happen still falls into surely will happen category. As you attempts to push narrative that the Imperials will surely win. Jarls that were supportive of the opposing faction will be replaced with loyal supporters instead. Characters such as Ulfric, Balgruuf and Maven Black Briar, many of which players may have strong opinions on, can either rise to or fall from power as a result of the civil war's conclusion.
Fans may want to consider who they want to see on the throne and how it could impact Skyrim's future when picking a side. Even more significant than this is the long-term effects of Skyrim 's civil war. In the event of a Stormcloak victory, Skyrim more than likely becomes independent, freeing itself from the influence of the Empire and the Thalmor.
This has the potential of bringing an all-out war to Skyrim, as the Thalmor and their allies within the Empire may try to bring the province back under their command.
