Anime Discussion. Recent Watched Ignored Search Forum. Pages 3 [1] 2 3 ». I was asking myself that question , why is yaoi more popular than yuri.. And why yaoi is very popular and beloved while most of the anime community are boys?
Because of fujoshis spreading it pretty much everywhere you go. I'm a shitposter for fun. I dunno but for me it seemed like mostly the other way around. An example can be like almost every anime which has a harem. Almost all of them has a character that is just fixated on another member of the harem. Though these are mostly just fan-service but still. It's never really seemed that way to me. The amount of people who casually ship girl characters together is ridiculous in my exposure.
Usually in my eyes Yuri seems more popular but Anilist ftw still :dab:. Lesbian stuff was hot shit back when I was a teen, but now it's just boring. Lesbians aren't into dudes. That kinda kills the fantasy.
Yaoi keeps things interesting by exploring the taboo. I kind of feel like yuri doesn't have a "mythology" that is developed enough. In my mind yaoi is located in its own world that is very far removed from everything else, whereas yuri usually exists in conjunction with other genres and styles.
So yaoi has a stronger presence in a way. I think it's mainly just that girls prefer boy x boy and guys prefer boy x harem of girls, so yuri then gets left behind. I think you're being too sexist here OP. What's popular is isekai-or whatnot. I can't really answer that question. Shojo-ai GL and shonen-ai BL were born as a rammification of the shojo genre, and i'm sure that they were popular untill some point, but nowadays the market is totally dominated by Yaoi.
Maybe it's because fujoshi are strongly supporting Yaoi, while Yuri just doesn't have a strong fandom and no, it's not a "boys only" thing Chandela Look at the amount of Yaoi manga and compare it to Yuri. You see a lot of people shipping two girls because you're probably going on """normal""" anime discussion, which have a bunch of guys but these guys won't consume yuri, while fujoshi are supporting yaoi works.
Psycho Both Yaoi and Yuri are better explored on manga format, same with titles that deals with transgender issues. They're still niche compared to other genres, so you can only have poor adaptations done by bad studios.
Kuchitsu That happens because of the difference on popularity. Yaoi is bigger in any way you could think, more titles, more authors and more diversity. But i'm sure that if there were a fujoshi counterpart for yuri we would see more and better works.
Because gayness is taking rule over the world. Because chemicals in the water are turning everyone gay, especially frogs. I hope Asagao to Kase-san haven't read it will be a good adaptation and the Savior for the genres. I assume it's because it serves as an erotic genre for females in the same way ecchi is for males. For guys who want to jack off, yuri seems to be a less popular option than ecchi, whereas yaoi has much fewer alternatives. I think this is also why yaoi has more of a smutty reputation than yuri.
Tsukihiko Ironically the places I had in mind have huge female presence and they more than certainly advocate yuri, so you're right in saying it's not a 'boys only' thing , so I don't think your impression holds up much here. Though to be fair I wasn't really thinking in terms of manga specifically something to keep in mind. I was speaking more so relative to anime and it's sales statistics of the last bit now which I'm quite fond of watching.
Everything that i've watched untill now was gross, this season is no exception with Hitorijime My Hero doing all the horrible yaoi tropes and Netsuzou TRap which i prefer not talking about And i was using MAL's anime discussions as reference, so my bad. I don't not know much about yuri, but I think I know why it is less popular than yaoi. Furthermore, there were also many people that voted for neither of them, and most of them gave reasonable explanations for why they chose this answer.

I guess the power of yuri had slowly grown stronger than yaoi…somehow. In any case, all we can do is continue supporting the lovable genre of animated girls and women falling in love with each other. Like Like. Yuri definitely is much more better than yaoi in term of sales while Yaoi is much more popular in term of popularity.. Hm I'm not quite sure if Yuri does a better job in terms of sales, I actually think that Yaoi sells better at the moment.
On the other hand I believe that the genre Yuri is becoming more popular pretty fast, so maybe someday we will really surpass Yaoi, but who knows…? And Yaoi in real life is dirty, while yuri is pure?
I'm afraid that I can't agree with that. People surrounding me generally love Yaoi, I've neither seen Yuri nor Yurikon in my real life. In China it seems the same way, that who loves Yaoi are generally girls, and who loves Yuri are equally males and females.
Although there're many girls like Yaoi, but a number of them are Bogus Fujoshi. Well it seems this isn't the main problem? Yuri is master, haha……. Most of my female friends who are into anime, love Yaoi and always try to get me to watch it with them. I think I have so far never even met a female yuri fan in real life, it's kind of frustrating…. I'm sorry but I don't fully understand what you mean with these two terms, it seems I'm a little confused about it.
Did you want to say that a yuri or yaoi fan doesn't necessarily want to engage in real lesbian or gay actions? I'm actually the same. There're too many female Yaoi fans and they always recommend me to watch some Yaoi animate or read some Yaoi novel, oh yuck..! Well anyway I don't care lesbian in the real world though I've not seen any confirmed les yet…. By the way, as far as I've seen, most male anime fans like Harem while female anime fans like Yaoi.
This phenomenon is exactly reflected on Tieba the largest Chinese communication platform. I can't really confirm anything, but from my experience I can say, that many male anime fans really are into harem anime. Because it would be quite rare to find someone who is only ok with homosexuality as long it's 2D. I mean, I do recommend stuff for some friends to read but they're not like me who's always in the hunt for new material. My two girl cousins love yaoi and well I've tried reading it but I just really find yuri more sexy.
I'm not sure if it's just because I'm into girls, but I'd like to think that it's because yuri storylines and panels are more expressive… even without words.
I have not read that many yaoi manga, but I've watched quite some anime. Well more like I was forced to do so, but I mostly didn't hate it. What I noticed is the fact that many yaoi anime focus solely on the relationship, while one of the characters is usually the dominant one, while the other just goes along with it. It feels a little forced sometimes and at least from what I've seen, the story in general is usually not as innocent, showing a lot more kissing and touching than what I'm usually used to.
Yuri on the other hand often comes as a side plot or if it is the main theme of the story, there are other themes involved as well, just like in Kannazuki no Miko. Also I think, the feelings of the characters play a bigger role, at least in some yuri anime, while yaoi focuses more on the actions, if that makes sense.
You know.. How weird, right? I think if they're gay, they will read Yaoi, but they told me, Yuri is much more chemistry and ecstatic. My straight sister like Yuri, too. She reads shoujo-mang and Yuri-manga together. Whatever the results come up, it's a happy feeling to know Yuri is slowly growing stronger than the past :. S: Do you think your blog will be safe since you post this entry :? As far I know, Yaoi-female-fans are aggressive :. They won't forgive you if you compare Yaoi with any genre.
I'm very sorry for the WAY too late reply, it seems I didn't get a notification when you posted this…. This is a late response, but I felt like putting my two cents in. I personally prefer yaoi, but I actually don't mind gay men in real life. Since I actually have a gay male friend in real life, I think it's adorable when two guys are a couple.
But surprisingly, I don't mind yuri either. I mean, it's not to my taste, but I don't hate or want to bash on it either. Since I also have a lesbian friend in real life, I've learned to accept lesbian relationships in real life as well. I myself was a bit surprised by his answer. He explains that most Yaoi based on his experience are more focused on sex.
On the other hand, yuri is the opposite and that's why he like yaoi more We can't argue there are more straight girls who like BL than straight girls who like GL.
They're most likely gay if they like GL. But guess what? I'm sorry but it's the truth :joy: :joy: Now what about straight guys? What do they prefer? GxG or BxB? What I mean by this is that the male audience are too bored at focusing on the romance. They want excitement. They want thrill! But MOST yuri are more focused on romance.
Yuri is more on the development between the two girls and that's what the male audience don't really Like I said they want thrill. If the anime industry were to adapt more yuri Sales wouldn't be that high since the fanboys don't like all those lovey dovey stuff. But us girls do. I'm so not sorry you had to read this weird blog of mine! But zunnot fret my friends!! Times are changing. Next year, we'll get to see our Citrus, Kase-san and Hibike!
